The Independant – Hadron Collider to be closed amid fears of a very big bang

The Large Hadron Collider has always scared me a little bit. I’m all for trying to discover what it was like at the beginning of the Universe. Especially if it gives us more proof that the religious guys really don’t know what they’re talking about. But this machine is pretty crazy. It’s the biggest thing that’s ever been done. What ‘structure’ is bigger?

The boffins are worried that something, although they’re not sure what, might go wrong if they use it on full power.

I just hope when they finally crank it up to full they don’t create a supermassive black hole and we all vanish. That’s a slight exaggeration by the way, just incase you were thinking of commenting about how that’s not going to happen so I clearly don’t know anything.

There is clearly a risk though or the scientists wouldn’t be acting so cautiously. Is the risk worth the benefit? I don’t know if it is…
